The problems seem to start sooner that compile and link. Configure is choking:

Looking at https://www.openssl.org/docs/man3.0/man7/openssl_user_macros.html,
I don't see a DOPENSSL_NO_DEPRECATED_3_0.

Are you sure that is correct?
