Hello team,
I've decided I want to try a new thing: I want to invoice the project fund at
Open Collective for curl.se server hosting and management.
We have a fair amount of sponsors now. Our funds exceed 100K USD at the
moment.
Our biggest expenses used to be the Bug Bounty, but recently that
responsibility has now been shouldered very elegantly by the Internet Bug
Bounty. They have their own army of sponsors.
At the same time, I have spent my own personal money to pay for the curl
server and I've spent my own (spare) time on its maintanence now for over
twenty years. I figure maybe it doesn't have to continue to be this way.
My plan is to charge the curl fund maybe 1,000 USD per month (on a yearly
basis), to cover for my expenses and work on server "stuff". The amount is
pretty arbitrarily picked out of the air and is meant to be reasonable and
cover the actual hosting fee as well as some amount of my server admin work.
I hope nobody feels offended by me doing this.
More money
We have more funds to do more good things for the project with. The main
obstacles that prevent us from using the money are: 1) ideas of what to do and
2) people to actually drive the ideas in (1) to happen.
