An API for extracing (HTTP) headers?

Hello,

Every now and then libcurl-using application authors ask for an API to help
them extract contents of specific HTTP response headers. There are many
libcurl-using applications and there are many of those that need to extract
header contents, so providing a generic and single way to do this might make
the world a tiny bit better and save a lot of people from duplicating that
extra work.

Maybe the time is ripe to consider adding functions for this? But if so, how
would they work?

I jotted down my initial thoughts, but I would really appreciate some feedback
from you who actually have this need/use case to learn what you think an API
like this truly needs...

See: https://github.com/curl/curl/wiki/get-headers

Also possible to discuss in https://github.com/curl/curl/discussions/8335

(again: these are ideas and thoughts, not a final concept)
