One interesting thing I noticed is that pretty wide amount of projects which are already ported to Windows by means of mingw-w64 and use Autotools, often provide Visual Studio projects for MSVC builds. It is pretty surprising to me, because Autotools has pretty decent MSVC support, at least in the recent years. Yes, unfortunately there are still some nasty bugs in libtool, but hopefully they are getting fixed over time.
