Running int to "SSL certificate problem: self signed certificate in certificate chain" error on http trasnfers

I started building the libcurl release from source for a project because
we needed features not in the RHEL7 libcurl (7.29.0),
But it's failing with an error message:
"SSL certificate problem: self signed certificate in certificate chain"
The system library versions (Red Hat 7 has libcurl version 7.29.0, Red
Hat 8 7.61.1) doesn't have this problem.
What changed? How do I un-change it using the 7.74.0 version that I am
building from source?
