I have tried to compile the curl with OpenSSL option. The linker failed with the following error messages:

.......... (numerous similar error msg deleted)

ld: fatal: relocations remain against allocatable but non-writable sections

Background information:
OS: Solaris 8
Curl-7.10.7
gmake: 3.79
gcc: 3.2.1 32-bit
OpenSSL: 0.9.7b

By the way, Curl-7.10.4 was compiled and linked without any problems. The problem seems to start from release 7.10.5 and above.

Any idea?
