Daniel,

it looks to me from the various discussions on this topic that the file
locking feature is a significant challenge. Which leads me to the
following: for those of us who desperately (that's right) need a solid,
working cookies support in cURL (and the cookie jar seems perfect for
that job), wouldn't it make sense to split this project e.g. in two
phases:

  - Phase 1: base cookie jar functionality developed and made available
"right away"; this would make a lot of us on the list happy (I almost
exclusively access secure/cookie-based Web sites).

  - Phase 2: depending on Phase 1 feedback from users, re-assess the
need for the file locking (and filtering?) feature(s), and eventually
implement it (them).

Just my 2 cents...
