Not sure if this helps. More of a hack I guess.

 We compiled curl on Windows 8 with the windows 7 run time APIs to make it
compile and then linked it with our application. We did this primarily
because the following was required in windows 8 metro.

Ø Ws2_32.lib

Ø Winmm.lib
 We are now able to transfer files on Windows 8.
