Do this after having built curl:
$ cd tests
$ ./runtests.pl 101
It runs only test 101 and shows you details on what particular detail(s) that
failed. Getting such a huge list of failures is quite overwhelming and I'd
rather see that we try to identify the problems one by one instead. This is
not a known problem to me. Unless...

I know there have been problems on AIX when curl is built to use libcurl
shared, as then the test suite goes completely bonkers. It might be what you
experience here too.
Try adding --disable-shared to the configure options and see if it makes any
difference. Tor Arntsen runs autobuilds on AIX 5100-06 and they seem to work

(If you're up to it, I would not mind some autobuilds for your machine... )
