You can probably get some ideas from the lwIP tcp/ip "hacks"
built into libcurl. The lwIP + Windows combo actually works with
some glue code for the threading stuff. Look at the code inside
'#ifdef USE_LWIPSOCK' for the general idea.

Since lwIP can be configured for many proprietary OS'es, it's
hard to give you more specific hints. See lwIP's site and libcurl's
docs/INSTALL at the section:
  "Using BSD-style lwIP instead of Winsock TCP/IP stack in Win32 builds
