Well, I don't know if it is implemented on the AIX, but I wrote it for
the iSeries (formerly AS400) OS400 operating system.
IMHO, it should not been used if another API is available, because it is
not reentrant and deprecated (should be replaced with the new API... but
I cannot find the time to write this code).
