I just found IBM's documentation on their z/os port at
http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/resources/hpuza202.pdf It's interesting
to see what they've done. They basically included all of the curl man
page (with edits for z/os specific changes), added a section on EBCDIC
conversion and another useful one on the date and time formats supported
by curl. Then they've dedicated 128 pages describing each and every
informational and error message that can be output by curl, what each
means, what it does, and what the user is supposed to do about it.
Much of that information is applicable to any curl user.

The IBM-modified sections give some clues as to what changes they had
to make in order to get curl working smoothly on z/os. That would be
a good reference if you decide to tackle the port yourself.
