I agree that it would make perfect sense. I someone writes the patch that
makes that happen, I'll be happy to merge it once it is fine!

When I wrote the initial code for POP3, IMAP and SMTP I only provided the
basics with the hope that if people truly find these protocols useful and they
want them supported better, I would get help to get them improved on areas
such as this.

I don't think it is. I'm not even sure where we would document that... :-) (I
mean in which section in what docs.)
