There is another /MD in \src\Makefile.VC8
Changing this to /MT works for me. Also, don't forget to change VC6 to VC8 in
the Makefile in base directory.

BTW, it's really confusing that curl sets /MT in \lib\Makefile.VC*
automatically when RTLIBCFG ist set to static, but does not in
\src\Makefile.VC*
