Ok, Daniel. If you want a web forum you want a web forum.
Anyway I'll throw my 2c in or maybe some rhetorical questions.
What benefit to the project will provide an online forum that the web
interface to the Archived "Curl Mailing Lists"
http://curl.haxx.se/mail/ doesn't already provide ?
The already existing web mail archives are updated as soon as a new
message is posted to the lists. No username/password/email is needed
to read. And obviously, no additional username/password/email/spam
management is needed on your side.
If someone wants/needs to post using a web interface, they could be
suggested to use an email provider which offers a web interface, there
are lots of them, even very good ones which are free with a *huge*
mail storage capacity.
If actually the need of a forum is to be able to classify in I don't
know which classification that's another thing.
As a simple idea...
Why not create a link in the main page that says "Forums" that takes
the user to a page in which the list of the "Archived Curl Mailing
Lists" appear, and clearly state that subscription to "the forum
section" is needed to post ?
Even maybe, subscription to a list could be done in which by default
no message at all is sent to the subscriber ?
