Well, you won't have to look too hard. For example, --with-gssapi with
no parameter appears to succeed at the start of the configuration, but
fails later with no indication that it was because of a missing GSS library.
It's easier to make excuses for that behaviour than --without failing since
--with without giving a path is illegal according to configure --help.

IMHO, the minimum assumed intelligence of the configure user is higher
than the curl user, so I'd rather spend the effort improving the experience
of the latter as he's less likely to figure out how to fix things when
he screws up. --without-* failing was definitely a curl bug, on the other
hand, so if you can find more of those, they're worth fixing. Actually,
fixing --with-gssapi et. al. to bomb out immediately without a parameter
would be pretty trivial, but those curl TODO and KNOWN_BUGS lists are already
so long...
