I took latest configure.ac (1.96) from CVS and run configure but it
doesn't change anything. Where are the changes reflecting? Should I see
"-qthreaded" and "_THREAD_SAFE" in some log or make files?

Ok, I added additional code to the configure script to make use of the
-qthreaded option when xlc on AIX used.

I'll appreciate some feedback if this works/doesn't work.
