That libcurl version is more than four years old and suffers from several
publicly vulnerabilities. OpenSSL and zlib of those stated versions are also
very old and have known security issues.

I would seriously recommend an upgrade.

I doubt that this is due to (lib)curl, but when you've upgraded you could run
wireshark or similar to properly diagnose what's going on and exactly what
parts of the communication that is taking this long time.
