Php 4.4.1 is as bleeding-edge as possible, unless you want to move to
php5, which is considered a big jump for many coders and sysadmins.
zlib latest is 1.2.3, but there is not many changes in the lib (it is
pretty old and stable by now), the main fixes being, iirc, prevention of a
couple of possible attacks
openssl latest is 0.9.8a. Here again, main differences from 0.9.6g are
security fixes
CURL on the other hand progresses so fast it sometimes proves to be too
much of a 'moving target' for overworked administrators....
Simultaneous upgrade of all components is NOT mandatory.
Of course, if you have to recompile, you might as well upgrade all
components at the same time (it might save you a recompile in two or three
weeks).
