Actually, would that be the case, if this error was just the very bottom of
the output. I just noticed, after checking on gcc, that the program does run
gcc quite a few times before it finally errors on that cpp-precomp part. I'm
a little skeptical now- I only pasted the very bottom of the output into my
original email so wanted to make sure. thanks a lot.

This is a problem with your gcc on your system. This error is not
curl-related.
