Sorry it took a while for me to respond. I've been away.

curl 7.9.3 contains a name resolver flaw that makes it behave badly at times.
I suggest you either downgrade to 7.9.2 or go with the 7.9.5-pre1 package
that are available.

Another option would be to simple patch the name resolving parts in your
7.9.3 code, but that seems more work for very little gain.
