Definitely sounds like your console is trying to display binary data.
What version of curl?

Hello!
Recently a strange thing happened. When I use curl to download a file
with a command
curl -x proxy:port -r 0-10000000 -O http://www.site.com/file.ext
my computer starts to beep(!) and screen displays hyrogliphic symbols
(looks like it tries
to display file content). I even can't stop that beeping, only 'reset'
button helps.
Any suggestions what this could be? So far curl has been working fine
for me.
Thanks a lot!
