Some days ago there was a comment mentioning that curl
configure doesn't work when a non standard ssl location
is used and configure ended with

checking for curl_off_t... yes
checking size of curl_off_t... configure: error: cannot compute sizeof (curl_off_t), 77

This seems to happed when the openssl lib in questionis not in
the LD_LIBRARY_PATH and not in the system defined default library paths,
i.e. the so with the numbers in it.
