It suggests to me that something is weird. I think it is still premature to
say this problem is in curl's end alone.

If you run these POSTs against another server, just for test purposes, I
assume you won't see any of these problems.

I suggest a suitable mix of strace and ethereal (and possibly gdb) to
understand what's going on when it pauses and to find out who to blame for the
early disconnected connection.
