Rich,

Simply download my RPM (http://curl.haxx.se/download/curl-ssl-7.10.3-1.i386.rpm) and install it, as root, with "rpm -Uhv curl-ssl-7.10.3-1.i386.rpm". It was compiled on a standard RedHat 7.3 system.

(in answer to your question, you probably don't have the openssl-devel RPM installed, which is required to compile SSL support in any program)
