This error occurs because I am a silly person.

The problem in configure.in has been corrected in CVS and the configure
script as found in the 7.10.3-pre1 release should not show this problem.

You could try the 7.10.3-pre1 release all together, or just get the configure
script from it to replace your current one and re-run it!
