Using AXP VMS V7.3 TCPIP V5.1 (+ recent patches)
show similar results.

AFAIK is does curl does nothing but type the info.
Try using a different FTP client and use ls or ls -l
If you have a different TCP/IP stack for VMS their FTP server might
implement the ls or ls -l differently.
