installing curl on a Pair Networks server (chmod/chown problem?)

Greets!

I'm having some trouble installing curl on one of Pair Networks'
(a shared server webhosting company) secure servers.

It looks like the 'configure' app calls chmod or chown, neither
of which I have permission to use.

Can anyone think of a workaround? Right now, after 'configure'
finishes, the program has run all its checks, but doesn't install
into the /curl folder I specify. If it's just a matter of
knowing which files to put where after the installation is done,
I can do that kind of thing manually, but I'm worried that more
is being missed.

Here's the output of my configure results:

./configure --prefix=/usr/home/myusername/curl
