Summary: Having a "$" symbol in the password causes 530 error

Initial Comment:
-u "u38074434-backups_at_sddbackupsver$22"

The above statement will cause a 530.

The below statement works.

-u "u38074434-backups:serCDckupsverACCT"

Full syntax of non-working command:
curl -u u38074434-backups:sccrbackupsver$22 ftp://DOMAINDELETED.com/dbs_gz.tar > backups/weekly/dbs_gz.tar

Full syntax of working command:
curl -u "u38074434-backups:eerBAckupsverACCT" ftp://DOMAINDELETED.com/dbs_gz.tar > /Users/addy/Desktop/destination/tar.tar

*Note: I substituted a couple regular letters for other letters so that I'm not submitted real passwords.

I would assume that's because your shell does something to the letter or
similar. There's nothing special with '$' anywhere in curls treatment of
passwords.
