Initial Comment:
curl_easy_getinfo says:

"CURLINFO_TOTAL_TIME. Time of the previous transfer.
This time does not include the connect time (CT), so
if you want the complete operation time, you should
add that."

Same statement at two other places in the same
document.

But that is not correct, TOTAL_TIME includes
PRETRANSFER_TIME (and CONNECT_TIME etc).

Simple test:

time curl -w 'r=%{time_redirect} n=%{time_namelookup}
c=%{time_connect} p=%{time_pretransfer}
s=%{time_starttransfer} t=%{time_total}'
http://somehost/
<html>
...
</html>
r=0.000 n=0.001 c=0.465 p=0.465 s=1.119 t=1.120
real 0m1.132s
user 0m0.010s
sys 0m0.000s

TOTAL_TIME + CONNECT_TIME is greater than execution
time, so TOTAL_TIME is indeed the total time.
