When invoked with --socks parameter curl won't login
and will return responses from FTP server instead of
actual listing or file data.

This problem is now added to KNOWN_BUGS #23. I have no plans
personally to work on this.

If we could just get someone to write a SOCKS proxy suitable
for use in the test suite, then we could probably get most
of these SOCKS problems sorted out.

Closed for now.

What curl version?

Can you show us a full trace of what happens?

Are you up to fixing this and provide a patch? I don't have
any SOCKS proxy (real or in the test suite) so I have a hard
time to test any changes.

Very few people actually use SOCKS these days so I have very
little motivation to do any major work on this on my own.

The SOCKS support in (lib)curl is unfortunately lacking and
it has always been "left behind".
