Right, but in reality they weren't built previously either unless you
specifically wanted that, since you then had to manually invoke 'make' in the
docs/ dir.

Agreed, but I'm not sure what the better approach is here. I would probably
find it slightly annoying to have them built on every make invocation.

Oh, and 'make examples' in the root dir also works.
