It was not intended. I want applications' timing logic to remain working the
same!

I haven't dug really deep in this yet, but I suspect this is the commit that
broke it for you: 0b3750b5c23c25f

If you can try with current git and just revert that, it would be great to
have my suspicion confirmed before we proceed to try to fix the issue at hand.
