Sorry for the delay. I forgot about this. But this example shows the
"(nil)" part in the trace:
  curl -vL -o NUL

  * Couldn't find host in the _netrc file; using defaults
  * Re-using existing connection! (#0) with host (nil)
  * Connected to (nil) ( port 443 (#0)
