Really? One of the patches Jemery referred to adds special magic for 401/407
responses that stops reading the response body. I would imagine that changes
behavior quite drastically.

If you check the response to that mail, I questioned it back then and imho it
still seems very weird but it might explain what you experience if you observe
the same thing.
