CURLOPT_CUSTOMREQUEST is not needed when transfering files or listing directories but when using dele, mkd, rmd, rnfr, rnto, chmod, cwd...

No.

That would be in most of _your_ cases then. How do you transfer files with FTP without using them?

I would appreciate patches that allow libcurl to list directory contents without them (using STAT) but I don't believe in overloading CURLOPT_CUSTOMREQUEST for that purpose.
