Sorry, I am probably confusing things. I went to the curl download
page and downloaded the win64 curl exe (both the non-ssl and the ssl
versions) and it correctly accesses the files I need. I then attempted
to build my own libcurl by downloading various sources. Building
these, with the example file from the downloaded exe, does not
correctly access the files (and instead triggers the 401.2 error I
mentioned). I am bound to be compiling incorrectly - idiot
instructions to do this for visual studio, with links to all the
components i need for a 64bit win would help, since i now feel
completely confused and a complete idiot.
