Looks good, from the RFC-pedant point of view. I'll let Daniel comment
on the use of the cURL API.

Note that RFC5322 says you SHOULD have a Message-Id:, though. Some
people reject messages which lack one, since it's such a common thing
for spam/virus traffic to lack.
