Yes, you really need ssl to use https.

I guess somebody of the windows users can help you to
build curl with ssl. If not, simply use a binary with ssl
support from the download section.

(I've added "Windows" to the subject, hopefully the right
people will read your thread now and not the Unix guys like me...)
