So, I contacted Gary Maxwell (he mentioned adding axTLS support to cURL back in 2008 and 2009) and his opinion is that axTLS support should be re-written from scratch. axTLS has progressed enough that a re-work of the existing integration would be just as much work. I've been given time to do this, so expect to see some patches posted in the coming days and weeks.
