Thank you for the hard work. We have applied the patch and
tested with the modified curl example code. The timing results
are much more consistent.

Your change does not appear to be localized to Windows - does
this mean the issue could potentially occur on Linux as well?
We have not seen that case, but perhaps other platform differences
prevent it from arising?
