Hi Dan,
Thanks for the hint, now it looks like I am linking to my library, but now I
am running into another link error.
Curl_Handler_ldap even though the statement
#define CURL_DISABLE_LDAP 1
is there in the default config-mac.h

I tried to make sure that the lib I built is what I am linking to, but when
try removing the older versions of the libraries on the system and give it a
shot.

Those symbols were added recently, in 7.18.2. You're probably linking with
the wrong (older) copy of the library somewhere on your system.
