At the risk of veering somewhat off-topic for the curl list, it's worth
noting that libgmime doesn't actually depend on any other GNOME
libraries except for libglib. The latter doesn't contain or require any
GUI components, and I can't immediately think of any reason it shouldn't
work on an EBCDIC machine either. So, this might not be such a hopeless
route to pursue as you may have first thought.
