I usually work on UNIX/Linux systems and use bin for executables and lib for libraries, but I don't know if there is a suitable option for a library path in Windows, as I think it only uses the PATH environment variable when searching for executables or dlls. I left the .lib files in the lib directory for ease of linking. I'd be happy to use whatever is the most popular method.
