To allow the possibility of running runtests.pl from outside the
source tree the I've committed the following changes to CVS:

It was verified that runtests.pl was able to run from outside the
source tree with those changes. But the test was done only when
building in the source tree. And yes these changes breaks runtests.pl
when building outside of the source tree as the autobuild table show
for today.

The changes have already been reverted. Sorry for any inconvenience.
