Thanks this resolved the problem.

I also followed Daniels suggestion and just used the --host option and it
also ran through ok. I've got my sample app running on the MIPS now. Thank
you.

Try 'make clean' and then configuring and recompiling, or if it still
doesn't work try nuking your whole source tree and starting from scratch.
There might have been bad files lying around from earlier, failed builds.
