I forgot to add, here is my code:
curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_ERRORBUFFER, errorBuffer);
curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_PORT, port);
curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_URL, url.c_str());
curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_HEADER, 0);
curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION, 1);
curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_WRITEFUNCTION, writer);
curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_WRITEDATA, &buffer);
// Attempt to retrieve the remote page
result = curl_easy_perform(curl);
// Always cleanup
curl_easy_cleanup(curl);
