I must admit that the VC6 makefiles are a bit weird, and it didnt link correctly when you wanted to build ssl+zlib;
I believe I've fixed that now with introducing a new target in the main makefile;
can you please test with 'nmake vc-ssl-zlib' from the main source dir if that works now for you? I've tested this with OpenSSL 0.9.7d and zlib 1.2.1; my last buildlog is here:

BTW: I could build OpenSSL without problems, exactly done as stated in the readme...
