I work mostly on web server plugins. On solaris, when I last tried purify, we were not even able to intrument our code. Purify did not support shared libraries back then. Things might be different. We were able to use purify when we had the web server code and it is instrumented by purify. I am not sure about the memcmp problems you are having.
