It doesn't give me an error. It runs to completion, but when I type
"make", it reruns configure. I'm guessing that during the configure,
something kept the script from completing, like it didn't find a
required function or header.

I can't see in the log how it fails. What does the configure script
output
that makes you draw this conclusion?

The config.log will do for now if only you can show us the actual error
message you got from configure.
